HK Unicorn Squad brings hands-on technology education to Estonian schools, where students in grades 6–8 learn robotics, drone operation, programming, and digital skills through practical tasks. The learning takes place within the regular timetable and is part of everyday school life.
The goal of the program is to ensure that every child—regardless of their school or location—has access to modern technology education. Today, more than 1,000 students are already participating, and interest is growing rapidly, with dozens of schools on the waiting list.
Project Content
The aim of the project is to introduce systematic and practical technology education into Estonian schools and to develop students’ technological and collaboration skills.
As part of the project:
Two practical technology learning modules are developed, with a total volume of 40 academic hours, implemented as part of formal education in grades 6–8
Modern technology modules are delivered to 40 class groups across schools in different regions, providing hands-on experience with drones, robotics, artificial intelligence, and real-time systems
Teachers are trained to equip them with the skills and tools needed to conduct practical technology lessons
The HK Unicorn Squad model is tested to ensure cost-effective and smooth implementation of technology education in schools
Feedback is collected and analyzed from students, teachers, and school leaders to further develop both the curriculum and methodology
The learning approach is based on practical tasks and experimentation, helping to engage learners of different levels and supporting active learning.
Broader Goals and Impact
The project supports the development of young people’s technological skills and increases their interest in engineering and digital fields.
In the long term, the project contributes to:
Bringing modern technology education to every school in Estonia and making 21st-century skills as natural to learn as mathematics or the native language
Developing a tested full-solution model that can be implemented and further developed in all Estonian schools
Ensuring that students graduate from basic school with modern technological competencies that broaden their horizons and opportunities for further studies and career choices
